Question 32--> brief answer.

"Briar Rose" has a plethora of water imagery. Why?

-Water can be seen as a symbol. Perhaps symbolizing life or a change--the changes throughtout the years of Briar Rose and the life she lived even after the fairy put her under a spell after her fifteenth year.

  1. Good work, Jessica! Water can be lifegiving (give the man a drink of water!), or it can be devastating (a flood or a person drowning). Water also symbolizes the unconscious. Just like there is a surface to a person--what we see-- there is also a depth: their personality and psychology. Also, look at the specific creatures Sexton describes: a shark, a jellyfish. Why does she choose these animals?
